Round Braid Lead Rope & Embellish Braid

Instructor: Danita Doerre, Forrest Ridge Llamas & Alpacas

This is not your usual twisted yarn lead rope! In this class you will learn to braid in the round by holding four groups of wool strands and using an under-two, over-one pattern to create a special-occasion lead rope. The lead will use a commercial wool yarn and a lead snap will be provided. There will be discussion on securing the snap, shrinkage, two different braiding techniques and finishing off the lead. You take home a beautiful and unique lead for your special camelid and the ability to make more!

The round embellish braid will use a camelid blend yarn and this braid may be used for embellishing fiber products, purse straps and so much more.

Cost: $15.00 (includes all yarn for both projects, lead snap, four clips, and instructions) Class size limited to 10 students.

2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Carding and Blending Fibers

Instructor: Christian Davies, C&M Alpacas and Mill

Most everyone who spins loves to create their own special blend of fibers and colors in order to create an equally special yarn. If you're one of them, then plan on taking this class where there will be instruction on custom blending camelid and other fibers. You will work with both a drum carder and the newest item in blending, the blending board. Learning what fibers work with each other to best benefit the final product and choose your own colors, to create art batts and rolags to take with you and then spin at your leisure.

Cost: $20 (includes all materials, use of a carder/blending board) Class size limited to 11 students.

12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m.

So Many Beads, So Little Time

Instructor: Laura Harrawood, Show Me State Minis

With mounds of camelid fiber in an almost endless variety of color and texture, you would think that would be enough for anybody. Well apparently it is not enough because now we’re going to go and add beads. Natural colored or dyed camelid fiber lends itself perfectly to the addition of beads. In this class you’ll learn a simple way to add beads to your homespun as you are spinning. With a little bit of practice you can embellish your yarn and make it sparkle.

Participants MUST know how to use a spinning wheel and have a working knowledge of spinning fiber.

Cost: $15 for materials. Please bring your own spinning wheel.
